BigCommerce Fulfillment: What the API Account Actually Is

Two credentials, generated once, and the store never has to change.

A Store Hash and an Access Token, and That Is the Ask

BigCommerce authenticates API requests with two things: the store hash that identifies your store, and an access token sent in an X-Auth-Token header. Both come from an API account you create in your own control panel, which means you grant access without handing over a login and you can revoke it without changing a password.

    Why that shape matters:

  • No shared logins

An API account is not a user account. Nobody is logging in as you, and nothing breaks when your staff changes.
  • Scoped, not total

API accounts carry specific scopes. A fulfillment integration needs order and product access, not your customer or payment data.
  • Revocable in one click

Ending a relationship with a provider means deleting a token, not auditing who still has your password.
  • Stable across theme and catalogue changes

The connection is to the store’s data, not its front end, so a redesign does not touch it.

Connecting BigCommerce to OC3PL

Generate the credentials once. Live the same business day.

  • What you do

Create an API account in your BigCommerce control panel and pass over the store hash and access token.

  • What OC3PL does

Mapping, SKU matching, test orders and go-live, connecting straight to the warehouse management system.

  • What flows in

Orders, with their line items and shipping addresses, as they are placed.

  • What flows back

Fulfillment status, tracking numbers and inventory levels, so the storefront reflects what is actually on the shelf.

BigCommerce Fulfillment Questions

API account credentials from your BigCommerce control panel: the store hash that identifies your store, and an access token. BigCommerce sends the token in an X-Auth-Token header on API requests. The connection runs directly to the OC3PL warehouse management system and is live the same business day.

No. An API account is separate from a user account, so access is granted through credentials rather than a shared login. Those credentials are scoped to specific resources and can be revoked without changing anyone’s password, which is why it is the right way to connect a fulfillment provider.

No. The integration connects to your store’s order and product data, not its front end, so a theme change or redesign does not affect it. What changes is that orders leave for the warehouse automatically and tracking comes back without anyone exporting anything.
