1. Receiving
Matched to your ASN, every SKU photographed, discrepancies flagged in your portal, received within one business day.

At this volume, a warehouse problem is a revenue problem by lunchtime. You need a team that plans with you and a person on site who answers.
OC3PL supports brands shipping tens of thousands of orders a month. One apparel brand on our results page grew from 500 to 5,000 orders a day over two years and moved into big-box retail without changing warehouses. At ten thousand orders and up, what matters is planning, accuracy across thousands of variants, and a team that answers the phone when something moves.
The math is simple. The operation is not.
Ten thousand orders a month averages out to roughly 330 a day, or closer to 450 to 500 on working days. That average hides the real shape of an apparel business. A drop, a restock or a promotional email can put a full day of volume into the first hour. A slow Tuesday can sit well below the average.
At this size, the warehouse is no longer a vendor you check on once a week. It is part of how the brand makes money. A late drop costs more than shipping fees. It costs reviews, repeat purchases and the next launch. A wrong size costs an exchange, two labels and a customer who hesitates next time.
Brands usually reach this volume with a warehouse they picked when they were much smaller. The questions that mattered then were price and setup speed. The questions that matter now are different:
The rest of this page goes through each of those, with what OC3PL does and what you should ask any warehouse you are considering.
No warehouse keeps idle labor waiting for your next drop. The ones that handle spikes well plan for them.
Every 3PL says it can scale. The honest version is that capacity comes from forecasts. Labor is scheduled against expected volume. When the forecast is good and arrives early, the floor is ready. When it arrives the night before, everyone is guessing.
At ten thousand orders a month, a simple planning rhythm makes the difference. Send a rolling forecast every week. Flag drops, restocks, promotions and influencer posts as soon as they are on your calendar. Tell your account manager when a post goes viral, not the next morning.
| What to send | When | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Rolling weekly order forecast | Every week | Sets the baseline staffing for each day |
| Drop or restock date, styles and expected orders | At least a week ahead, earlier for big releases | Labor is booked and inventory is received and slotted before launch |
| Bundle and gift-with-purchase plans | With the drop forecast | Kits can be built ahead, most in 24 to 48 hours |
| Inbound shipment ASNs | Before freight arrives | Receiving is scheduled and completed within one business day |
| Peak season forecast by week | Before October | Holiday labor and packaging stock are planned early |
| Unexpected spikes | As soon as you see them | Your on-site account manager can move people while it is happening |
OC3PL has absorbed real growth. The apparel brand on our results page went from 500 to 5,000 orders a day over two years. Supporting that meant investing in new material handling equipment, automation and technology, and adding new sales channels along the way. Read what changed between 500 and 5,000 orders a day for the operational detail.
At this volume, a one-off miscount becomes a weekly overselling problem.
A brand at ten thousand orders a month often carries hundreds of styles, each in several sizes and colors. That can mean thousands of active SKUs, all of them nearly identical to the picker. Accuracy has to be built into the process, not left to care and attention.
Inbound cartons are checked against your advance shipping notice. Every SKU is photographed at receipt. Anything that does not match is flagged in your portal, so you have evidence to take back to the factory or the freight carrier. Labeled, scheduled shipments are received within one business day. See receiving apparel from overseas factories for how to prepare inbound freight.
Apparel is auto-slotted by size, color and style. Bin locations are assigned by pick frequency and item dimensions, so your top sellers sit closest to the packing line. Clean SKU naming makes this work better. If your variant structure is messy, fix it before the move. Size and color variants explained covers how.
Every unit is scanned during picking and double-checked before packing. The packing station verifies that the SKU and the order match before branded elements and void fill go in. Labels print only after that check.
Low-stock alerts can be set up so you hear about a size running out before your customers do. Set the thresholds with your account manager using your real supplier lead times. Reorder points for core styles walks through the math.
Most brands at this size sell in three or four places. The stock should not be split four ways.
Ten-thousand-order apparel brands rarely sell only on their own site. Amazon, TikTok Shop and wholesale accounts usually come into the picture. Each channel has its own rules, and each one wants the same mediums you are short on.
OC3PL can ship direct-to-consumer orders and wholesale purchase orders from the same warehouse and the same inventory. On Amazon, you can run Fulfillment by Merchant from our warehouse, send prepped inventory into FBA, or do both from a single pool. That keeps your counts in one place instead of scattered across buildings.
| Channel | What the warehouse handles | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify and your own site | Orders flow in through the integration; tracking flows back | Shopify apparel fulfillment |
| TikTok Shop | Viral spikes and the platform’s ship-time expectations | TikTok Shop apparel fulfillment |
| Amazon | FBM orders shipped from us, or FBA prep with poly bags and FNSKU labels | Amazon FBA prep for apparel |
| Wholesale and retail | Purchase order routing, GS1 labels, ASNs, EDI and palletized freight | Apparel wholesale and retail |
The hard part is allocation. Decide how much of each style is held back for wholesale before a store order wipes out your DTC stock, and before a drop sells through units promised to a retailer. Allocating stock between DTC and wholesale covers how brands set those rules.
Apparel returns grow with order volume. If processing does not keep up, sellable stock sits in a pile.
Returns are processed and logged within 48 hours of receipt, and many are handled the same day. Each item is inspected and restocked, discarded or donated by the rules you set. At ten thousand orders a month, that speed matters for two reasons. Exchanges ship while the customer still cares. And restockable units go back on sale instead of waiting weeks in a returns cage.
Refunds can be triggered on receipt or held until inspection is complete. If you already use a returns app, our integrations directory includes Loop, Happy Returns, AfterShip Returns, Narvar and ReturnGo, so the experience your customer sees can stay the same.
Monthly reports show return reasons by SKU. At volume, that report is worth reading closely. One style in one size coming back again and again is usually a size chart problem, not a customer problem. Why apparel gets returned and what returns really cost go deeper.
At this size, the speed of an answer is part of the service.
Your account manager works on site at our Anaheim fulfillment center, in the same building as your inventory. When something is urgent you call and talk to a person who can walk to the shelf and fix it. Call anytime. We are here. We got you.
All client requests are acknowledged within two hours, and support is never outsourced. You do not file a ticket and wait in a shared queue. There is no help desk between you and the building.
Your team also gets weekly performance reporting covering service levels, shipping costs and inventory status. Receiving generates a live breakdown in your portal. Returns come with monthly summaries of trends, SKUs and reasons.
Ask any 3PL where its account managers sit. A person in another office can only relay your question and wait. A person on site can walk to the dock, the shelf or the packing line and act. On-site vs remote account management explains why this matters most during a drop.
There is no rate card. Quotes are built around your actual order profile.
OC3PL quotes pricing around your SKUs, order volume and workflows, with every line item spelled out. Invoicing is weekly. Storage is calculated on the space you actually use and pro-rated daily. There are no setup fees, no order minimums and no long-term contract.
Shipping is billed as a pass-through of what the carrier charges. Packages are rate-shopped across carriers per order. Peak surcharges from carriers are passed straight through and itemized, not hidden.
At this volume, the best quote request includes three months of real order data: orders per day, units per order, the size of your catalog, your return rate and your channel mix. That lets us price from your numbers rather than estimates. Apparel fulfillment pricing lists the line items to compare across providers, and the apparel cost per order shows how to build your own number.
The same five steps at ten thousand orders as at a thousand. More people, more planning.
