Apparel Packaging and Unboxing

Your customer opens the mailer and sees your brand, not a warehouse. Packed your way on every order, including on drop day.

Packed to Your Instructions

Packing follows your own standard operating procedures for folding, bagging and packing. You decide what the customer sees when the package opens. We make sure it looks the same on order one and order ten thousand.

    What we can do:

  • Folding

Folded your way, so the garment looks right when it comes out of the bag and the graphic sits where you want it.
  • Bagging

Poly bags, including bags with suffocation warnings when a channel requires them.
  • Inserts and stickers

Thank-you cards, stickers, size guides, care cards and promo inserts.
  • Branded mailers and boxes

Your mailers, boxes and tissue, used at the packing station alongside the standard quality check.
  • Gifts with purchase

Added by rule, or built into bundles ahead of time so launch day stays fast.

Every Touch Is a Choice

Unboxing is labor. Spend it where your customers notice.

Each step in a packout adds a touch: folding a tee a particular way, wrapping it in tissue, sealing the tissue with a sticker, adding a card, choosing a mailer size. At a hundred orders a month, nobody counts the touches. At a thousand or more, they add up to real labor and real time on drop day.

That does not mean stripping the experience back to a bare poly mailer. It means deciding which touches carry the brand and which ones nobody would miss. A good test: if a customer posted an unboxing video, which steps would show up on camera? Keep those. Question the rest.

Keeping It Fast at Volume

Write it down, with photos

The most important packaging document is the one a new packer can follow on day one. Write the packout as numbered steps with a photo of each stage: garment folded, in the bag, insert placed, mailer sealed. Ambiguity creates variation, and variation is what customers notice.

Right-size the mailer

Carriers price by size as well as weight. A mailer one size too big for your most common order costs money on every shipment. See apparel shipping costs and dimensional weight.

Pre-build what you can

Bundles, gift sets and PR boxes can be built ahead of a drop. At OC3PL, most kitting builds are completed within 24 to 48 hours, depending on volume. Building ahead turns launch day into picking and shipping. See apparel kitting.

Keep materials stocked

Running out of branded mailers in the middle of a drop forces a choice between a delay and a generic package. Send packaging with your inventory, tell us your reorder lead times, and keep a buffer before every launch.

Packaging Rules by Channel

Not every channel wants the same packout.

  • Direct-to-consumer orders get your full branded experience.
  • Amazon FBA inventory follows Amazon’s prep rules, which can include poly bags with suffocation warnings and FNSKU labels. See Amazon FBA prep for apparel.
  • Wholesale orders follow the retailer’s routing guide: carton labels, pack-out rules and sometimes prepacks by size ratio. See apparel wholesale and retail fulfillment.
  • Influencer and PR kits can carry a different, more elaborate packout than everyday orders. See influencer seeding kits.

Write a separate instruction for each channel so packers never have to guess which version applies.

Checking That It Looks Right

Instructions only matter if someone checks them. Every order at OC3PL goes through the standard quality check at the packing station. When you launch a new packout, ask your account manager to send photos of the first orders so you can confirm it looks the way you intended.

Because your account manager works on site, you can also come and see it. Teddy Fresh, the Los Angeles streetwear brand, ships from our Anaheim warehouse. Brands close to Anaheim are welcome to visit and watch their own orders being packed.
