Ship-time promise
Does your site promise what the warehouse delivers?

The second order is earned between the click and the closet. Most of that is fulfillment.
An apparel customer judges a brand on the first order: did it arrive when promised, was it the right size and color, did it look good out of the bag, and was it easy to swap if it did not fit. Marketing brings the first order. The experience after the click decides the second.
Five points after checkout where customers decide whether to come back.
| Moment | What the customer notices | What makes it work |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmation | A clear ship time they can trust | A promise your warehouse actually keeps |
| Shipping | Tracking that updates | Tracking pushed back to your store automatically |
| Unboxing | The garment looks the way the photos did | Folding and packing to written instructions |
| Fit | Whether it fits | An honest size chart, and return data that fixes it |
| Exchange | How fast the right size arrives | Returns processed within 48 hours, exchanges shipped quickly |
No insert or thank-you card makes up for the wrong size. A mis-pick costs an exchange, two shipping labels and a customer who now doubts your brand. Every style is slotted by size and color, so a picker reaching for a medium in black is not digging through a bin of mixed sizes. A new collection is slotted and ready to ship within one business day of receipt.
Measure accuracy against your own support tickets, by size and color, every week. See apparel inventory accuracy and the KPIs to get from your 3PL.
For streetwear and fashion brands, the moment the mailer opens is part of the product. Decide what customers should see and write it down: how each garment is folded, whether it goes in a bag or tissue, which stickers or cards go in, and when a gift is added.
Keep it consistent at volume. Every extra touch is labor, so choose the ones customers notice. See apparel packaging and unboxing.
A customer who exchanges is still your customer. A customer who waits two weeks for a refund may not be. Make exchanges easy, fast and visible.
See exchanges vs refunds.
Use what fulfillment tells you. Return reasons point to size charts and product photos. Support tickets point to accuracy problems. Shipping times point to promises you should change. Review them monthly with your account manager. All client requests are acknowledged within two hours, and support is never outsourced.
A late or lost package is also a post-purchase moment, and handling it well can win a customer. At OC3PL, post-shipment monitoring covers tracking updates, delivery confirmations and lost or delayed packages, and the team escalates with the carrier directly. Act once tracking has not updated for five to seven business days, rather than waiting on a claim. Reship or refund, and tell the customer what is happening before they ask.
Each touch is a step at the packing station. Add them in writing, keep the ones customers mention, and drop the ones nobody notices.
Check these every quarter.

Customers judge the first order on accuracy, speed, presentation and how easy it is to exchange. Getting those right is what earns the second order.
Yes. Tracking is pushed to you and your customer automatically once an order moves, through your store’s own shipping confirmation.
Yes. Packing follows your own instructions for folding, bagging and packing, including inserts, stickers, wraps and branded mailers you supply.
Returns are processed and logged within 48 hours of receipt, and many the same day, so the exchange can ship quickly.
Yes. Monthly reports show return reasons and SKU-level detail, so you can fix sizing or photos on the styles that come back.
The team escalates with the carrier directly and keeps you informed. A practical rule is to reship or refund once tracking has not updated for five to seven business days, rather than waiting on a carrier claim.
